Nether Glenny Farm is rich in wildlife
We have 4 Highland Cows that we cross with a Short Horn Bull. Our herd is small and growing year on year. We have chosen native breeds which can withstand the harsh winters in Scotland and our cows are grass fed.
Our 3 Australian Cattle dogs are called Max, Jack and Gem. They have the title of ‘working dogs’ however they are more accustomed to wonderful walks in the hills and afternoon snoozes by the fire. In saying that if Matt needs to move some cattle from one field to another he will take Gem along to help.
Nether Glenny is home to 3 beautiful peacocks: Mildred and two chicks. You will see them pecking around the cottages during your stay and if you’d like to feed them please ask for a little bag of dried worms.
Larry, Sally and Mary are our pet sheep. Larry in particular enjoys a head and ear rub so if you book a farm tour you will have the chance to get up close to them and give them a bucket of feed. We also have two Oxford Sandy and Black pigs.
During the summer months look out for the Osprey who fish on the Lake of Menteith and fly over the farm. Throughout the year you will see pheasants, buzzards, black grouse, ravens and red kites. Listen out for the barn and tawny owls hooting in the trees at night time. The swifts and swallows return in May too and nest in the eaves of the house and the barn. Last but not least we have lots of tiny little bats in summer swooping around the trees.
